Pedigree charts are constructed to show the inheritance of genetic conditions within a family. Such charts are a great help in determining whether a phenotype is controlled by a dominant, recessive or sex-linked allele
.
What I learned here is Pedigree analysis is the  study of the genetic conditions or diseases of a person's family tree. It can be used to diagnose genetic diseases or to find the probability of a trait  that will be passed on to children.

  • The Goals of Pedigree Analysis 1.To determine the mode of inheritance: dominant, recessive, partial dominance, sex-linked,autosomal, mitochondrial, maternal effect.
2.To determine the probability of an affected offspring for a given cross.

  • A series of symbols are used to represent different aspects of a pedigree. Below are the principal symbols used when drawing a pedigree.
  •

Pedigrees are most often constructed by medical geneticists or genetic counselors. People are referred to genetic professionals because of concern about the presence of a genetic condition in a family member. Pedigree analysis can help identify a genetic condition running through a family, aids in making a diagnosis, and aids in determining who in the family is at risk for genetic conditions.
